Spy Games

This week I’m debuting a new on-going monthly feature at the Movie Morlocks called SPY GAMES. As my regular readers know, I’m extremely fond of spy films – particularly ’60s era spy films! – and I’ve written about them often. This year is the 50th anniversary of the quintessential ’60s spy, James Bond, so I decided to celebrate the occasion by devoting some of my time to writing about espionage films every month during 2012. It will be fun for me and hopefully it will be fun for readers as well. In the meantime you can whet your appetite by exploring the “Spies & Secret Agents” archives here at Cinebeats. You can also mosey on over to the Movie Morlocks and read about some of the upcoming events being planned for James Bond’s 50th anniversary.

  1. With “The Artist” doing so well at the Golden Globes, perhaps it’s time to (re)acquaint readers with the director/actors’ previous duo of “OSS-117″ films. They are as meticulously crafted tributes to the late ’50s & mid ’60s respectively “The Artist” was to the early ’30s.

  2. I’ve already written about the first OSS-117 film and I’m sure they’ll get more than enough attention now that THE ARTIST has won so many awards and will probably end up with an Oscar or two. I’m personally more interested in writing about older films that have often been forgotten or neglected. There are thousands of spy films so the possibilities are almost endless.

My old write-up on OSS-117 can be found here:

  3. Thanks for the link – great write up, I agree with most of your points. I went to a screening of the sequel, “Lost In Rio,” and director Hazanavicius and actor Dujardin did a q&a afterwards. Talk about people who love film history! Apparently, Pink Panther movies are popular in France. I can’t figure that out. How would the jokes about Peter Sellers’ accent make sense in French?

I’m looking forward to following your articles about spy movies.
